The Coptic Church

The Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria is the main Christian church in Egypt. The Church was established by Saint Mark the apostle (author of the Gospel of Mark) in 42 AD during his visit to Alexandria. The Church belongs to the Oriental Orthodox family of churches, along with the Eritrean, Armenian, Syrian, Indian, and Ethiopian Orthodox churches which formed a distinct church body after the Council of Chalcedon in 451 AD.
